Sounds good to me! I like the new site and the new minimalistic attitude. However, in my browser [Firefox] there's now a big white fixed-width column in the centre with two grey columns on either side - I liked the site better when it was all white (though I know this design is kind of the norm for blogs).

You keep writing whatever way you like - I'll keep reading :)

I have four trips to parks scheduled, I think I'll do one piece with footage from all four... Eventually. ;) I still have stuff to edit that I shot in June!

Dry bags are your friend when it comes to taking electronics on the water... They're durable bags that you can seal and make watertight, so even if you capsize or get caught in the rain everything stays dry. Packing for outdoor expeditions... That would make a great blog post. Hmm.

Can't enjoy a provincial park without looking through a lens, can you? :P
Charleston Lake is wonderful.. I hope you post the video. Would you take your gear on a boat?

[...] Remember last summer when I decided to hold off on upgrading my CineForm NeoHD to ProspectHD until Prospect supported Premiere Pro CS4 playback acceleration? Turns out I won’t be upgrading at all. Today CineForm announced that when version 5 of their software family is released, the Prospect line will be eliminated, leaving the Neo line (NeoScene, NeoHD, Neo4K, and Neo3D) all by itself. So it looks like the next time I upgrade my CineForm software, I’ll be upgrading to NeoHD v5 instead… presumably at the same time I upgrade the rest of my Adobe software to the forthcoming Creative Suite 5.
I use a custom preset in Premiere - square pixels, 1280x720 progressive, 23.97 fps. It's important that your sequence settings and source footage properties match - I know that when I play back 1080p footage on a 720p timeline I get choppy playback, presumably because Premiere needs to scale the footage on the fly. ProspectHD includes dedicated CineForm timeline presets for PPro that would probably improve performance further, but until Prospect includes a CS4 real-time engine I don't think that it's worth the extra money.

It could also be a hardware issue - what's your setup? Because of CineForm's higher data rate, a slower/non-dedicated hard drive might cause that kind of choppy playback too.

Hello:

First of all Thank you very much for your posts on CineForm experience. These were very helpfull.

I have fallen for other the addvertizement of CineForm NeoScene from various websites stating how it is much lighter codec for editing and it works so nicely. Well I have tried it out my self and I am not happy with it at all. I am only getting is choppy video. I have been trying my best to setup my CS4 Sequence different ways to get a smoother playback but did not get any improvement. I wanted to ask you - what settings do you use to get smoother playback in CS4?

Any other suggestions for better preformance of CineForm in CS4?

Thank you very much for your time.

"Aliasing issues, rolling shutter, sound recording limitations, the form factor… Real video cameras will always be, by definition, better at shooting moving pictures than a still camera."

It's very true - just one of those things that we'll have to live with until 'real' video cameras start making the technology jump to large sensor formats.

But what about the physical shape and feel of the camera? Holding a DSLR is totally different from a video camera, especially if there's a heavy lens in front unbalancing it. Then there's the inconvenient fixed screen and viewfinder. Also the placement of controls - buttons which traverse menus on the back rather than on the side - seems like it would make it hard to change settings while shooting.
